Celebrate Community and History at the Long Beach M. L. King, Jr. Day Parade Saturday, January 19, 2013.

A festivity filled with community pride, the Long Beach M. L King, Jr. Day Parade will feature Long Beach marching bands and school groups, union members, politicians, police and military, and citizens, all joyfully honoring Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.

There’s something for everyone — from cheer leaders to vintage cars — followed by a great community festival with free entertainment and tasty food at reasonable prices.

Long Beach Celebrates M.L. King, Jr. Day with Spirit

Mood of the Community Reflects the Theme of the 24th Annual Event, “Peace! Passion! Purpose!”

Chanting: “MLK, MLK, MLK – Peace, Love, Hope – MLK, MLK, MLK,” Long Beach school groups, union members, politicians, and police joyfully paraded with dozens of organizations in honor of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. … We wish you a wonderful day in the spirit of Dr. King.

Music and Metro – Metro Goes to Free Concerts Everywhere!

Summer in LA means the parks and plazas near Metro Rail stations are alive with the sound of music, the rhythm of dance, and the applause of the crowds. It’s free concert time!

All across Los Angeles County you can see FREE music, dance, and theater performances adjacent to Metro Rail stations. We attended performances at four venues: Grand Performances at California Plaza and Levitt Pavilion at MacArthur Park, both off the Red/Purple Line; Levitt Pavilion at Memorial Park, Pasadena, off the Gold Line; and Summer and Music – Downtown Long Beach, off the Blue Line.

These are just a sampling of what’s available for free. We’ve included links to other free (and fee) concerts.

So hop on the Metro and go to a concert!
