Spirited Halloween LA Style – Historic Dia de Los Muertos

Olvera Street Hosts Spirited Fiesta – through Nov. 2

Calacas (skeletons) are dancing through Olvera Street in Downtown Los Angeles in celebration of Dia de Los Muertos (Day of the Dead ) – a Mexican cultural holiday honoring ancestors and departed relatives.

Olvera Street is across from Union Station, a stop on the Metro Red/Purple and Gold Lines. So hop on the Metro and celebrate! Continue reading

CicLAvia Encounters Occupy LA

Spoke Folk Meet Spokespersons at City Hall

CicLAvia’s say that part of the purpose of this event is to allow Angelenos to discover LA. On Sunday, October 9, 2011, many cycling by City Hall encountered more than this icon’s distinctive architecture — placard-carrying protesters from the Occupy LA encampment surrounding City Hall met them with signs and chants.

Perhaps in an “only in LA” fashion, members of these two world-wide movements greeted each other with respect, engaging in peaceful interactions. Continue reading
