Expo Line Opens Saturday, April 28, 2012!

Discover LA by Metro:
We Took a Preview Tour of the Expo Line

The wait is almost over – Expo Line Phase I is opening!

For this Metro Duo, the Expo Line opening is personal. As long as we’ve known each other, we’ve been waiting for this Metro line to bring us together – and Saturday, April 28, it opens!

Opening weekend (Saturday, April 28 and Sunday, April 29) the Expo Line will be FREE.

On Saturday, Metro has organized free entertainment, including live music, on-stage karaoke, performances by local dance groups, and tasty treats will be available for purchase from food trucks and local eateries. These activities will be at the stations at 7th Street/Metro Center, ExpoPark/USC, Expo/Crenshaw, and La Cienega/Jefferson.

Check out our friend, jazz singer Devon Deming, who will be belting out the tunes from 2 -2:45 p.m. at the La Cienega/Jefferson station.

“Art in the Streets” Closes August 8, 2011

Discover LA by Metro:
Last Weeks for MOCA’s “Art in the Streets” Near Little Tokyo/Arts District Gold Line Station

One fascinating aspect of this show is the selection of large installations, some created just for this exhibition. Street artists such as the redoubtable Banksy and Swoon, one of the very few women in this ultra-macho genre, who created the the amazing paper sculpture installation pictured at the top of this post, are exhibiting works that go well beyond painting on walls.

This exhibit is at the Geffen Contemporary at the Museum of Contemporary Art in Little Tokyo through August 8.

We just had to pay a second visit before it closes, so we are glad to share more photos with you.

You can avoid paying admission Mondays from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. thanks to Banksy, the British street artist.

Thursday evenings from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. are also free.

Music and Metro – Metro Goes to Free Concerts Everywhere!

Discover LA by Metro:
Summer in LA means the parks and plazas near Metro Rail stations are alive with the sound of music, the rhythm of dance, and the applause of the crowds. It’s free concert time!

All across Los Angeles County you can see FREE music, dance, and theater performances adjacent to Metro Rail stations. We attended performances at four venues: Grand Performances at California Plaza and Levitt Pavilion at MacArthur Park, both off the Red/Purple Line; Levitt Pavilion at Memorial Park, Pasadena, off the Gold Line; and Summer and Music – Downtown Long Beach, off the Blue Line.

These are just a sampling of what’s available for free. We’ve included links to other free (and fee) concerts.

So hop on the Metro and go to a concert!
