Discover LA by Metro:
Take a Sunday Stroll Through LA with CicLAvia and See Many LA Architectural Icons
This Sunday’s CicLAvia will highlight Iconic Wilshire Blvd. between the Miracle Mile and One Wilshire in Downtown. CicLAvia – Iconic Wilshire Boulevard is part of Pacific Standard Time Presents: Modern Architecture in L.A., a collaboration initiated by the Getty and involving arts organizations across LA. Wilshire Boulevard traces its beginning to 1895 and is now one of the most notable boulevards in the United States.
On Sunday, June 23, from 9 a.m. – 4 p.m. — an extension of hours from previous CicLAvias — Los Angeles streets will be closed to cars from the Miracle Mile to One Wilshire in Downtown LA. This is a chance to enjoy LA and see it from a different perspective — from a bike, skateboard, or just leisurely strolling down the middle of the boulevard. There are many great views to be appreciated, because of both the pedestrian/bike perspective and the slowed-down pace.
One of the joys of CicLAvia is that you can start and stop whenever and wherever you want, and do it on your own schedule. This is not a race — it’s streets turned into open space. Seeing the city streets filled with cyclists, skaters, and strollers — wheeled and on foot — makes one really appreciate that LA belongs to everyone from all neighborhoods.
The upcoming CicLAvia route covers new territory and also includes past favorites: MacArthur Park and 7th Metro/Center. CicLAvia offers a wide variety of activities for people of all interests and ages, including music, performances, food trucks galore, and just about everything else L.A. has to offer!
This CicLAvia route is very Metro accessible via the Red/Purple Lines. So leave your car at home and take your bike on Metro to CicLAvia. If you’re coming from Long Beach or the Westside, take the Blue Line or Expo Line train to 7th/Metro Center and join the flow. Gold Line riders will need to transfer at Union Station. Remember to TAP before you board each train. Depending on how many train rides you’ll be taking, a Day Pass may be your best bet. We have posts on how to TAP, how to use Metro, and to help you find your best train route.
Whether this is your first or seventh CicLAvia, plan on joining the fun on Sunday, June 23.
